Crafted with Passion

Origin

Every year, we slaughter livestock for meat then we discard the skins and hides since they fetch very low prices. This wastage inspired us to establish collection centers and offer farmers better prices for their hides and skins.
The name "Jenerali" was given to the founder in 2017 by friends in campus because of his boldness. The spirit of boldness and leadership are what we represent.
Dare Boldly.

The Problem We Solve

Farmers/ pastoralists in Kenya sell their hides and skins for as low as 30 shillings per piece. The exploitation of pastoralists leads them to discard the raw materials and damage it during slaughter. Too much value is lost this way.

Our Solution

By offering better prices, we motivate farmers/ pastoralists to produce better quality hides and skins. We also use the bones and hooves to ensure that we use the whole animal without wastage.

Why Leather?

We love leather because it is timeless, durable, and waterproof. But that is just the obvious part...
Behind our efforts lies friendship and family. The best gifts our founder has received in his life were leather. The most memorable among them were 2020's pair of boots from his late lover, 2011 from a cousin, and 2024 from a brother. Every time, these gifts would make me gasp with excitement.
Real leather takes your breath away!
That is why we make real leather products; to pass the experience and excitement.

Essentially...

At Jenerali, we don't just make leather products; we create masterpieces that tell a story. Our mission is to bring you bold, stylish, and durable leather goods that stand the test of time. Each piece is crafted with meticulous attention to detail, ensuring that you not only look good but feel good too.

Our artisans pour their heart and soul into every stitch, using only the finest materials. We believe that leather is not just a material; it's a lifestyle. With Jenerali, you're not just buying a product; you're investing in a legacy of craftsmanship and quality that you can pass down through generations.

boots

The boots were our first ever product, made in 2022 in Nyahururu. It was mostly handmade but stitching was done with the ordinary machine. We ran into issues of material supply, material quality, and improper machinery etc... but this was a great start.

jacket

We made this sheepskin jacket in 2023, our second ever product and first jacket, made in Nanyuki. Our main issues were lack of quality garment leather, lack of skills, and lining issues.

wallet

I made these 2 card holders myself in 2024. These were the third product we made, and it was the beginning of our hand-stitched leather designs. I learned from John Orlando, a man who has travelled from America, across Asia, and to Africa, garnering leather working skills. I am a proud beneficiary of his years of experience.

Our Vision for the Future:
  • Improve material quality and make African leather globally competitive.
  • Reduce exploitation of farmers and pastoralists, noting that sheepskin across Samburu, Laikipia, and Nakuru goes for just 30 shillings, which is unfair to livestock keepers.
  • Train our local community in the best arts of leather working to provide an extra source of income and fill the skills gaps.
  • Donate school bags to orphans to empower the next generation of leaders.

Join us in celebrating the art of leather-making, where tradition meets innovation. Dare to be bold with Jenerali, where every product is a statement.
